Winter

Winter is a song that I wrote because of the growing realisation that certain people who have always been a hugely important part of my life are getting older, their health was deteriorating and that they won't be around for ever. 

It was important to me that it didn't become a sad and depressing song - there is enough going on in the world that makes me sad - I wanted this to be more of a bittersweet celebration of the circle of life and hope that comes across in the song.

While my life was at it's start
Way back then I was Springtime
Winter hadn't touched my heart
And as the days slowly lengthened
You watched my shadow grow tall
When I danced in the warm Summer sun
I didn't notice your leaves start to fall

We danced our way through Summer 
Winter's chill seemed so far away 
Time slipping through our fingers
When we should cherish each single day

Now I know that Winter is coming
It's like a shard of ice deep in my heart
But I'll always remember the warmth of your love
And we'll never truly be apart
There can be happiness in endings
There can be love that can make you cry
There can be pain and there can be loneliness
But they will fade as time goes by

The sun is low in your sky now
But there's still beauty in the Winter Sun
I've a lifetime of memories I'll keep in my heart
Until my own cycle of seasons are done
So now I'm left with a question
Is Winter truly the end?
Surely the Spring melts the frost and the snow
And I'll see your smile again?
